This list begins with January 2012. Being on this list in no way suggests guilt on the part of the group, only that the stolen animals were reported at a particular rescue, society, shelter, foster. This can be helpful information to those looking for their rabbits in the future.
Jan. 8. Rabbit Advocates, Portland, Or.
18 meat rabbits belonging to Levi Cole of Portland Meat Collective.
A representative of Rabbit Advocates informed us that the rabbits were dumped in the yard of one of their volunteers and that the owner never contacted them to tell them his rabbits had been stolen. That he made no effort to find out if they did in fact have the rabbits. That the only contact Rabbit Advocates had with him at the time was his call looking for a doe to nurse the babies that had been left behind, babies that subsequently died and he gave no indication that he was looking for stolen rabbits. Ultimately, over a two week period and the objections of several friends of Rabbit Advocates, one of whom engaged an attorney to fight the return, the rabbits were returned to their rightful owner.
The burglary has been described as "politically motivated".
The case remains open as the night time burglars have not been apprehended.
Anyone with information as to the actual theft, please contact the Portland, Or. Police Dept.
