About Stolen and Missing Rabbits
We are a new group online listing rabbits reported to us as stolen or missing from their owners. We search by ear numbers (tattoos) primarily.
Rabbits may go missing any number of ways. They may get out of the yard or house while the owner is away, they may be stolen at a show, they may be the victims in a burglary such as the Portland burglary of a rabbit farmer recently or they may have been turned loose or dumped by a terrorist group such as ALF.
If the rabbits are tattooed, they are much easier to have returned to the owner.
We ask everyone who has adopted or fostered a rabbit from any "rabbit rescue" group, advocacy group, or Humane Society to please check the left ear of your rabbit for a tattoo. If the rabbit is tattooed, please send us the tattoo number if it is not already listed on this page. Frequently, if the rabbit belongs to a breeder and was stolen, arrangements can be made for you to keep that rabbit if you have become attached.
But realize also that you may very well be unwittingly in possession of stolen property or the unwitting participant in a felony.
We and the breeder desiring to receive the rabbit back have no desire to cause you yourself any problem. You, after all, "adopted" the stolen rabbit in good faith.
But we also care about OUR rabbits and would like to know where they are and if possible receive them back.
If you are one of the rescues NOT involved in illegal thefts and seizures and you receive a rabbit in with tattoos, please check the list here to see if that is a possibly stolen rabbit and we can relieve you of the cost of caring for it by returning it to it's rightful home.
Rescues may also submit their tattoos if the numbers are not already listed just to see if someone is looking for that particular rabbit.
In this way, the homeless rabbit populations will be relieved somewhat and many owners will be reunited with their beloved rabbits.
Thank you.
